How to knot the Mooncatcher | Tutorial
Here you will find a step-by-step tutorial on how to knot something with the "Mooncatcher'' knot of Silke Engels. This video and photo tutorial is aimed at making a dog collar, but you can also use the knot for, for example, bracelets or horse halters.
Materials
Calculate how many metres you need for your project using the Calculator (in the MatchMaker). Click on the tab 'Length Calculator' to open the Calculator.
The setup
Are you making a dog collar? Then it is important that you make a safe setup. For this knot you can choose between a single setup (Kosmetik 2.0) or a double setup (Kosmetik 2.1).
In this tutorial we will make a double setup.
Below you can see how the setup should look.
Colour 1: 24K Gold, colour 2: Holy Guacamole en colour 3: Golden Copper Glamour.
The knot
Below are photos that explain the knot step by step:
1. Make a loop with the left strand of colour 1. Bring it via the rear side between the two middle strands to the front.
2. Take the right strand of colour 1 and bring it to the front between the middle 2 strands. Insert the strand into the loop on the left.
3. Make the strands of colour 3 cross. Make sure you cross the strands the same at each knot (i.e. always left over right or right over left).
4. The left strand of colour 3 goes around the two vertical strands of colour 1 on the right and comes back to the front between the middle 2 strands.
5. The right strand of colour 3 goes around the two vertical strands of colour 1 on the left and comes back to the front between the middle 2 strands.
6. Tighten both strands of colour 3.
7. Let both strands of colour 3 go around the horizontal strands of colour 1 (made in steps 1 and 2). Make sure that the strands come back to the front on the outer side of themselves.
8. Repeat step 7 for colour 2. Make sure that colour 2 ends up on the outside of colour 3.
9. Tighten all the strands. Colour 2 might be difficult for the first knot. This will probably be easier with the next knot.
Finishing off
Finishing off a Paracord bracelet or necklace can be done in different ways. The more experience you have, the more you develop your own preference and method. Here are 5 tips for finishing off a Paracord project.
If you like to follow an example for finishing off, you can follow the instructions for finishing off the collar below.
